Kendall: Simi Valley is really nice. I never went to that arena before and I really liked it. Thank you Susan for a nice race.
Jill: WAY TO GO CAITLYN!!! Thanks Susan for putting on another great race! We appreciate all you do for us!
Yvette Hill: Hi Susan,No we didn't suffer any loss or damage, however it was very scary to say the least. Thank goodness for the charity of strangers. People who's own property was in danger. As I was attempting to write, the only heartache we suffered was from the lack of support from our very own district. Thanks for your concern Susan. You are fantastic!Yvette Hill
Susan: Yvette - Was your property okay after the evacuation? I haven't heard of any NBHA Members in California having any damage or loss of horses (Thank Goodness!), but I have received word of lots of evacuations.
Yvette Hill: Hi All,I wanted to write as this seems to be the place to speak out. After the fires in our area, I am left wondering about the barrel racing community. We had to evacuate 40 horses during the recent fire storm in Santa Clarita and NONE of our district members where anywhere in sight. I could understand if any of their properties where in danger, but they where not. There where strangers that lived in the same areas as most of the members of our district 17 lived, and they were all fine. I had f
Deanise: Kuddo's to Susan for such hard work at the state show! It is such hard work to coordinate more than 300 hundred riders each day, along with all the volunteer's and the TWO paid "employee's". So many people with so many different personalities is more than a headache! Especially when the certain elements are out of your control, such as awards. There were hiccups but WOW what great awards! So much fun...can't wait for Vegas and State next year!
Kiknitup: I don't know what's going on!!! This year's State Show was AWESOME!! The awards were the best - saddles AND buckles to first place in EVERY class??? Headstalls AND Breastcollars to Second place??? The ground was amazing!!! Quit whining!
Spurinit@aol.com: State finals was the wrost barrel race I have ever gone to. Where are the pee wee buckles and where are the Checks.
rodeogirl65: The show was so much fun!!! We loved the DOG RACES & can't wait till next year!!!!
Delaina Taketa: wow! i love how Susan is so involved with what we think! Vegas was awesome it was nice to see some california faces there that i new. You guys all did great! for me i had big success and am sitting 3rd in 4D for the all star standings and have a new saddle sitting in my living room! I cant wait too see everyone at state finals. it should be fun! also again thank you so much Susan for being involved! It really makes everything soo much fun! cant wait too see what you have in store for us at state
Deanise: Pat is right...the consideration for those who need to pull out of a show for reasons beyond their control is awesome. I had to pull out of City of Industry due to my hubby breaking his leg that Friday morning, as I was prepping to leave. I couldn't leave him to have surgery (7 screws & a 5 inch plate) alone. Thanks for the understanding!
Susan: Thanks, Pat and Kay C - we really appreciate hearing from you!
pat robertson: I benefitted from last years policy about refunds, esp since i got so sick at state finals i barely could drive home an hour from tulare,I was trilled that state finals gave me some of entrys back and with absolutely no hassels...I told everyone thet were impressed, for that reason alone unless none of my horses are sound enuff to go I am going to state finals. I was saddened to see that refunds were going to be tuffer to attain. When circumstances change @ the show consideration goes a long w
KayC Brink: I realy thought the dog race at state was fun, hope to see it agin. Im shur we could all help out and it would go smoother next time given the chance. I know you all have enough on your plate already at state, I my self plan to make more effort to help out this year where I can and if we all try to do somthing to help thoses that work so hard to put on the big shows for us Im shur we'd see lots of smiley faces and mabe some other fun side enteranement ??? Thanks for the big fun shows!
Cara Harris: this is great! A NBHA blog! thanks for taking the time.
Susan: Thanks for visiting!

2007 State Show - Recap

We're back home and the dust is finally settling after our 2007 State Show.  WOW - was the ground AMAZING or what?  One pro rider actually said it was the best ground she'd ever ridden on in her life.  That was the highest compliment we could have been paid. Thanks to John Dienhart and West Coast Footings/Red Master Harrows for the great job!

The awards were to die for.  Buckles AND Saddles to first in the Open, Breast Collars AND Headstalls to second in the Open, and awards all the way down to 10th place.  We went six deep in the Youth & Senior & buckles all the way around in every class.

We tried some new things like running the late entries first on Sunday to help people with a long drive ahead of them get out of Tulare earlier in the day.  With the full backing of our National office, we followed the lead of our National Show Crew in doing this, and we are not sure if it was well received.  There are some who hated it, and some who loved it.  So let us know what YOU think by going to our Vote Caster on the www.nbhaca.com website.

We also implemented the chute system that National uses.  We know we need to "tighten" it up a little by making modifications to the layout.  More stopping room, longer alleyway, etc... but all in all, it went over very positively.  Again, let us know what you think on the vote caster.

We know the Pee Wee Awards went on longer than we had planned and we plan on doing this OUTSIDE the arena next year so that we do not hold up the race.

We have lots more to plan and think about until next year.  Our goal is to improve the quality of our shows for barrel racers and model ourselves in the image of our National Show Team.  Many of us will never go to the World Show in Georgia, and I think that creating a show for you that has a lot of the same elements incorporated into it is a good thing for all of us.

So go to the vote caster and let us know what YOU think.....

I realize that there are two sides to every door, and I want to thank those that put on the Finals, BUT... what has barrel racing come to when parents are tying, strapping their children on ponies or horses, and then they are taught to carry a whip but not the reins ? Sorry, but this is border line child abuse, I want every parent to be strapped on, given a whip but no reins. Sorry but this is not even negotiable, and for the staff to permit this, wrong. And to the announcer, it is really cool, that you know some of the riders personally, I am sure because I hear full stories about these people and the wonderful obstacles that they have overcome, but if I have to be in the HOLDING PEN, then by Gosh so do they, and don't tell me over the loud speaker to hurry up, when Sally Sue, whom you are so proud of can't even get her horse in the holding pen OR the arena, and we have to wait for her, sorry not negotiable, and then your little funnel idea, when you run your so called pros against beginners or amateurs in this type of scenerio, you have just given the advantage to the pro, because I will bet if you take a poll, how many riders practice in this type of arena setup there aren't very many, ask the riders that didn't make it. Remember just because someone else attempts something, take into consideration the arena dimensions, so it doesn't make right for you to try to copy it. And what about the two bay/brown horses tied up to a horse trailer in the area where we had to enter the HOLDING AREA, and guess what they kicked ?
You guys did a lot of work, but missed the basic horsemen ship etiquette by miles. And your announcer, should try to make EVERYONE feel warm and fuzzy, oh yes you did call in the wrong girl, and yes she knew she was running out of order, but you called her in, I hope that she wasn't disqualified, so what if you made a mistake, no one is going to die, but try checking the video, if they have it I will pay for it. Thanks for your time and ear Betty
